What is SMP?

Scalp Micropigmentation is the most modern solution for drastically improving the appearance of thinning or receding Hair. By using specialist equipment, thousands of ultra-fine pigment ‘dots’ are implanted just under the surface of the skin. Over two to three treatments, these dots build up the image of tiny hair follicles. This creates visible and extraordinarily realistic coverage, examples of which can be seen on our website and which we discuss during Consultation.

There are many applications for this technique, each type of procedure adapted to suit a client’s specific needs. Areas of thin hair can be thickened up through an in-fill treatment, scars can be concealed, the look of a full and thick head of hair can be created to produce The Shaved Look.

This is the appearance of a fuller head of hair which is being kept shaved as short as possible, a very modern style in fitness and film circles, and for men suffering from advanced stages of hair loss, The Shaved Look is a fantastic alternative to balding entirely.

These are highly skilled procedures and it’s essential to match up the right option for what you hope to achieve. Below we can see which treatments provide what kind of results and for which purposes:

For an in-fill treatment, we treat in-between existing Hair. This is an exceptionally good treatment for transplanted hair as these hairs will not shed and follow-up treatments are less likely. SMP is applied underneath existing hair-bearing areas, creating the appearance of even more follicles. In this way the scalp is less visible, the hair looks dense, and full. This procedure is great for filling in where clients feel their Hair is not as thick as they would like and hope for their scalp to be less noticeable.

This is effective for a full coverage in-fill of the entire top of the head, or for smaller areas.

Hair Transplants & SMP

In-fill is the ideal treatment for post-operative Hair Transplant patients. Following a Hair Transplant, it takes around 12-18 months for the full results to be grown in, and if a patient doesn’t feel their results are as thick as they would like, then Scalp Micropigmentation literally fills in the blanks.

This does require an in-depth discussion about a patient’s surgical history, and long-term planning for their Hair future. For this patient, Scalp Micropigmentation can possibly be the final step in their journey, the cherry on the cake. Once a Hair Transplant Surgery (or surgeries) has given all it’s possible to do, then SMP allows a patient to have the most thick, full look possible, without paying for further surgeries. This also reduces the commitment to applying Hair thickening Fibres everyday, such as Nanogen, which is what many people currently use.

For post-operative Hair Transplant patients, or patients planning a Hair Transplant, a Consultation will be the best way to answer your questions about this revolutionary combination-treatment.

Scar Recovery

Scarring can have many causes, can differ in thickness and appearance, and therefore have different ways to prepare and treat them.

Whether caused by accident / injury, disease, or post-operative scarring, scars on the head can be distressing and distracting to many. If the goal is to conceal this scarring, then Scalp Micropigmentation, when applied skillfully to these areas, creates a visual flow through the hair, so the eye is not drawn to visible scarring.

Visible scarring can limit hair style choices too. Some choose to wear their hair longer than they would prefer to, to try to cover them up. When Scalp Micropigmentation is effectively applied to scarring areas, it is blended into surrounding areas also. This camouflages the scar at the skin surface level, and allows the client to wear their hair shorter or even on a longer shave.

Particularly following Hair Transplant Recovery, the donor area at the rear of the head will have been harvested for the donor grafts, leaving behind a very wide range of different scarring. The intensity and presence of scarring depends substantially on which Doctor performed the Surgery and how skilled they are in this area, how many grafts they took, and the post-operative care. Post-surgical scarring can be particularly distressing as the goal for the patient is often to create a most natural looking result. When scarring is bad enough it interferes with this. It is essential to choose a professional when looking into covering post-surgical scarring using Scalp Micropigmentation.

The Shaved Look

This is when the goal is to recreate the look of existing hair when natural hair has all but disappeared. The treatment you have will depend on how advanced the Hair loss is and is likely to get. Scalp Micropigmentation can be used to recreate the natural Hairline to blend it in to the rest of the hair. Extremely effective is the creation of a Shaved style, whereby the client opts to keep their hair shaved short, and SMP gives the illusion of a full head of shaved-short hair follicles. The procedure is matched to suit your needs, current and potential future hair loss.
